The second part of a decal series devoted to the Bf 109 G machines which fought over Sicily in Italian colors.
Responsibility details are not available.
The designation Gustav belongs to the later versions of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 with a more powerful engine and characteristic bulges on the gun cowling. These machines came into Italian hands at a time when the fighting had moved over the Mediterranean, and so German shapes met the Italian way of marking on their fuselages. The second part of the series follows on from the first and widens the choice of machines typical of this theater. In a display case a group can then be arranged by operator rather than by type of aircraft, and that tends to be the more interesting view.
The decals enclosed with a kit tend to be a compromise: they cover two or three schemes and the technical lettering is often simplified. A standalone sheet concentrates on one theme, and can therefore afford richer colors and more accurate drawing. At 1:32 that difference shows at first glance, because every motif is roughly twice the size it is at 1:48.
Cut the motifs out with a sharp point close to the drawing, so as little border of clear film as possible is left. Put the cut-up sheet back between paper and do not leave it lying in the sun, or the film will grow brittle and the colors fade. Unused motifs will last for years if you keep them dry. Before applying, check that the base is perfectly dry; the film will settle unevenly into fresh paint and you will not straighten it again. The model itself is not part of the delivery and is obtained separately.
