A-10A/C Thunderbolt II pylons (1:72, Aires)

A detail accessory cast in resin, not a model of the aircraft. The set replaces the pylons of the American Fairchild A-10A/C Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in 1:72 scale and is shaped for the kit from Great Wall Hobby. The resin pylons have crisper edges and more faithful detail than the plastic out of the box and carry the extensive external stores this aircraft is famous for better. The set is made by Aires, the Czech specialist in resin detail sets.

The real subject

The Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II, nicknamed the Warthog, is an American attack aircraft intended for close support of ground forces and for destroying armored vehicles. It carries a powerful rotary cannon and a large quantity of armament on numerous pylons, which are therefore among the characteristic elements of a model.

Fitting and painting

• Check that your base A-10 kit is the one from Great Wall Hobby in 1:72 scale, as the set is shaped for it.
• Wash the parts with lukewarm water and dish soap so that no mold release agent is left on the surface.
• Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel and sand the surface, always with your airways protected.
• Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for plastic will not hold on resin.
• Lay down a primer; the pylons are normally painted in the shade of the aircraft's underside, and a wash and drybrushing of the edges will bring out the detail.
