The real subject

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a European multirole fighter with a delta wing and canard foreplanes, powered by a pair of engines mounted side by side in the rear fuselage. It is exactly the rear end that is visible on a finished model from a distance and in a photograph, and the exhaust nozzles are the first thing the eye finds there.

What the set solves

In a kit the engine exhaust tends to be assembled from several parts and its inside is necessarily shallow so that it can be drawn from the mold. Replacement nozzles are bought precisely for the depth of the exhaust and for the rendering of its wall. The set is intended for 1:72 scale and, according to the name of the item, for the older Eurofighter kit from Revell, so not for any release at all. Before buying it therefore pays to compare which tooling you have at home.

Assembly and painting

Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder off carefully, so that the shape of the edge is not disturbed. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. They are glued with super glue, because a solvent cement for polystyrene need not take here. Try the fit dry first and level off any overhang of the fuselage; the finished nozzle has to follow the outline of the rear end. Plan the order of the work in advance, as access to this place tends to be limited once the rear fuselage is glued together. The particular preparation procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. In terms of color, the exhaust is usually done in metallic shades with a darker lightening toward the edge, which suggests heat discoloration.
