An imitation bolt with a hex head 1.4 mm in diameter. The second grade of the upper half of the scale, intended for gluing into the surface of a part.

Fourteen tenths of a millimeter is already a size the eye catches at first glance even half a meter away. It is precisely with such details that it shows whether a model will survive the trip to an exhibition or whether part of the hardware will be left at the bottom of the transport box. What decides is mainly what is under the head, not what is above it.
The worst enemy of seated hardware is not vibration but sliding. A model that moves two centimeters in a box travels across the surface of the foam and sweeps away everything that stands out from the surface. It therefore pays to pack the build so that it cannot move even under braking, and to avoid materials that leave fibers behind.
When one piece does get lost after all, it tends to be findable at the bottom of the packaging. It pays to tip the contents out onto light paper, because small hardware is hunted in vain on a dark background. A replacement piece is then easier to seat while the original seat is still noticeable in the recess.
It is useful to have a few spare pieces at hand already during the build. Anyone who sets one reserve aside while seating them does not have to dismantle a finished assembly because of a single missing head. It is likewise useful to keep the empty bag with the size marked on it, because reordering from that is quicker than from the eye.
