A head with a hex 1.6 mm in diameter. A dimension for the places most often touched while a model is being looked at, typically around removable covers.
Responsibility details are not available.
Not every piece of hardware on a model has the same fate. Some sits on the roof, where nobody reaches, and some borders an engine cover that is taken off every time a visitor wants to see what is inside. The 1.6 mm dimension belongs rather to the second group, because it is large enough for the eye to find it at the edge of a part.
Taking a part off repeatedly means repeated pressure from the fingers exactly where the detail is glued. That can be prevented by a single decision before the build, namely by laying out the grip: on a cover that is removed, a clear strip is left with no hardware, by which it can be taken without risk.
A dry trial reveals more than any plan on paper. The fingers find the place where they hold the part best by themselves, and that is exactly the place that is to stay empty.
If the cover is already fitted and the hardware is loosening under the fingers, a pair of small magnets or a pin glued underneath will help. The model is then lifted by a solid point and nobody touches the surface. The solution is unobtrusive and the joints on the upper side suddenly get some peace. Better still is to get into the habit of handing the model over together with the base it stands on. A visitor then touches the wood, not the hardware, and the build gains years of calm by it.
