A heavier hex one and three tenths of a millimeter across with a shank, with no washer under the head. A dimension for large scales, where the shape of the head is to be readable even without magnification.
Responsibility details are not available.
A short inspection before spraying decides how the surface will finally look. Run a finger across it: whatever catches on a fingernail is not fully glued and will flake off after spraying. Look against the light as well to see whether any head is sitting higher than the rest, and remove the fibers from a cloth, which like to catch at the base. These small things can no longer be put right under paint.
In 1:24 this value corresponds to a joint thirty-one millimeters across, in 1:35 then to forty-five. The head seats directly on the surface, so the resulting shape is lower and cleaner than in the variant with a washer. Where it is to be evident that there is another ring under the nut, reach for the family with a washer; where the hex alone is enough, this shape is more accurate.
Deciding between the two versions is easier than it seems. A washer helps where the surface is slightly curved or rough, because it enlarges the mating surface and the joint holds more squarely. On smooth sheet metal, by contrast, it is not needed and a clean hex looks more faithful. For first attempts the version with no washer is simpler, because with it a bad seating is spotted at once and can be put right immediately.
