The car with the number four belonged to Lando Norris, and the Japanese round of the 2023 season was one of his best weekends. McLaren, which had started the year at the back, brought both cars onto the podium at Suzuka, and the MCL60 became at a stroke the measure of what a well executed in-season update can do. The designation sixty refers to the sixty years of the team's existence.
A Formula car is over five meters long in reality, so in 1:64 something around eight centimeters is left of it. That is precisely where the difference between a collector's piece and a toy lies: at this reduction nothing can be fudged by size, so what is settled is whether the front wing is as thin as paper or as thick as a plate, whether the sponsors' lettering is really legible and whether the car has a separate halo and exposed wheel suspension.
The piece comes complete and painted, with rubber tires and printing done so that it stands up to a close look. Nothing is glued or finished off; the collector takes it out and stands it in a display case.
The scale keeps a sensible size: twenty cars from one season fit on a shelf that a single model in 1:18 would fill on its own. At the same time it is big enough for individual finishes and specifications from particular races to be told apart, which is exactly what this piece offers a collector following a single season.
