The Mazda RX-7 reworked by the RE Amemiya workshop with a naturally aspirated three-rotor engine, known as the 3ROTOR-7 Ama-san Go. A finished miniature in 1:64 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The engine unit designated 20B is the only production three-rotor Wankel that ever appeared in a Japanese car, and transplanting it into a lighter coupe is among the most closely watched conversions in this world. The abbreviation for natural aspiration in the designation of the car says the essential thing: forced induction was left out and the drivetrain is built on displacement and revs alone. The result is a throttle response that a force-fed variant cannot offer in principle.
Behind the car stands a Japanese firm whose founder devoted his career to a single type of engine and whose racing and road conversions can be recognized by a strikingly shaped front end and a particular way with aerodynamics. The designation Ama-san Go is the usual way in Japan of naming a particular car after its owner or builder; it is therefore not a type designation but the proper name of this machine.
The miniature comes painted and assembled, with the wheels on separate rims and with the workshop lettering printed on. Neither the year nor a color designation appears in the name, so the model is identified in a collection by the name of the car and by the look of the body. For a collection devoted to rotary engines it is an item that cannot be replaced by any other subject.
It comes out best in the company of other coupes of the same marque, where it can be seen how far the conversion went from the production shape. A display case protected by glass will keep the printed workshop lettering legible even after years.
