A masking template 1:700 for the deck of the battleship Musashi

A self-adhesive masking sheet with shapes pre-cut to the deck areas of one particular kit. It serves to let you spray the deck in two shades with a clean boundary, without having to lay tape around complex shapes. It is not a wooden deck and the surface of the model does not change in any way; what changes is only the way you apply the paint to it. The model the template is cut for is named with this product.

Handling and storing the sheet

A masking sheet is a consumable that is mostly ruined before it even gets onto a model. Leave it in its packaging until the last moment, flat, away from direct light and away from heat: the adhesive layer hardens over time and a mask then either does not hold or, on the contrary, tears the paint. Do not touch the adhesive side with your fingers, as grease from the skin reduces the grip markedly. Take the shapes out of the sheet with the tip of a knife or with tweezers, not with a fingernail.

Single use and adhesive residue

Count on a mask being used once. Once it is removed, the layer of adhesive is clogged with paint and the thin bridges tend to be torn. If a sticky film is left on the model after it, first let the paint cure properly and only then wipe the film off carefully with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol. On fresh acrylic, alcohol takes effect as well and it is easy to wipe the finish off too. Any small imperfections of the edge can be leveled with a thin stroke of a brush.
