A resin add-on for models of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II in 1:72 scale. It is a large external fuel tank of 610 gallons capacity in the late version, which Reskit ties in the name to the F-4E and F-4EJ versions. For the F-4F and F-4G versions the manufacturer has a separate item, so when choosing go by the letter designation in the parentheses.
The F-4 Phantom II was a two-seat twin-engine combat aircraft and one of the most widespread Western machines of its time. The F-4E version is the late American variant with a built-in cannon, the F-4EJ is the Japanese counterpart built under license for that country's Air Self-Defense Force. Large external tanks were part of the usual configuration on Phantoms, because range and time over the target were crucial in this category. The shape of the tanks differs between early and late pieces, which can be seen on a model in 1:72.
Wash the resin with lukewarm water and detergent before the build and let it dry through thoroughly. Cut the casting block off with a saw, level the mating face on abrasive paper on a flat support and protect your airways while sanding. It is bonded with super glue. Before painting apply primer, which on the large smooth area of the tank will reveal even slight unevenness. In color the tank usually keeps to the scheme of the aircraft; bringing out the panel lines with a fine wash and lightening the centers of the areas slightly gives the part depth to scale.
