A photo-etched set in 1:48 scale for a model of the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft. It adds the details that injection-molded plastic cannot make thin enough.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American attack aircraft intended for close support of ground forces. The structure of the machine is subordinated to toughness and destructive firepower: a massive rotary cannon is housed in the nose, an armored bathtub of armor plates surrounds the cockpit, and both engines hang in nacelles high on the sides of the rear fuselage, where the wing and the tail surfaces shield them. At the rear the aircraft has twin vertical tails. The machine is also known by the nickname Warthog and, even after decades of service, has remained hard to replace on the battlefield.
Photo-etched parts are made by etching an outline out of a thin metal sheet. That is exactly why they manage what is impossible with injection-molded plastic: grilles, loops, belt buckles, placards and other elements a few tenths of a millimeter thick. In 1:72 scale the difference shows above all in the places the viewer looks at from close up. The range of parts and their placement on the model are given in the instructions enclosed with the set.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, do not tear them. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or by pressing against a straight edge, because tweezers risk warping the surface. They are bonded with tiny drops of cyanoacrylate glue, best applied with the tip of a piece of wire. Before painting, degrease the metal and spray it with a base coat, otherwise the layer flakes off during handling alone.
This is an accessory photo-etched set. The aircraft kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
