A masking set for the glazing of an A-7 Corsair II model in 1:72 scale. The masks are cut to the shape of the individual glazed panes, so the most tedious part of preparing a canopy falls away: cutting tape to the frame with a scalpel. The target kit is Fujimi.
The glazing is masked before the airframe is sprayed. The proven sequence is this: wash and degrease the clear part, apply the masks, glue the part into the fuselage and fill the seams, and only then spray primer and color. If you mask only after the airframe has been sprayed, the tape or the mask may touch the fresh edge of the paint as it comes off and tear it away. Leave the masks on the part throughout painting, including the final varnish, and take them off at the very end, but not after a long delay, because the longer they sit on the part, the harder they are to remove.
The A-7 Corsair II was a subsonic attack aircraft with a turbofan engine, built for precise strikes against ground targets with a large load of ordnance on its pylons. The cockpit has a short windshield and a hinged canopy whose framing is narrow and intricate on a model.
