Cast defensive machine guns of the vz. 30 pattern for the gun positions of a model of the Aero MB-200 bomber in 1:72 scale. They replace the coarser plastic weapons from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
When the French bomber began to be built in Czechoslovakia, it was given home-made weapons. Instead of the original guns of French caliber, the gun positions received the vz. 30 aircraft machine gun of 7.92 mm caliber, derived from the celebrated infantry weapon of the Brno arms works. The aircraft had positions in the nose, on the spine and in a ventral bath, with the gunner standing in the airstream with practically no protection. In winter weather it was a duty the airmen remembered with undisguised horror.
Barrels tend to be the most fragile part of a casting, so free the part from the gate by cutting into the sprue gate remnant and never into the weapon itself. If a barrel does bend, a short bath in hot water will straighten it and it will hold its shape once cooled. In color the weapon never looks like fresh black plastic: a dark gray base with a hint of graphite sheen on the edges and a hint of oil around the breech is far more convincing. Fit the machine guns to the model at the very end, or you will break them off while handling it.
On period photographs the magazine tends to be fitted only on machines at readiness, whereas on aircraft parked on the apron the crew usually took it off and carried it away. It is a small thing that lends a finished scene more credibility than the finest paintwork, and it costs nothing but a moment with a photograph.
