An injection-molded plastic kit of the North American F-86F-40 Sabre jet fighter in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. It is a late export version of the Sabre and it differs from the earlier F-30 in its wing: the F-40 received an extended span and the reintroduced leading-edge slats, which improved handling at low speeds. The model from the easy-build range offers large molded sections of fuselage and wing, a simple cockpit, a clear one-piece canopy and airbrakes that can be built open or closed.
The F-86F-40 was intended above all for allied air forces, and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force operated it under license. The extended wing with slats gave the machine back the maneuverability at landing and at lower speeds that the fixed 6-3 wing of the F-30 version had sacrificed in favor of high-speed agility. The Sabre remains one of the most important fighters of the first jet generation.
Secure the joints with liquid cement for plastic. If you build a machine in natural metal, apply the metallic paint with an airbrush over a smooth sanded base and stir the paint before spraying. Take care to render the wing correctly against the F-30 version, so that the model matches the export F-40. Mask the clear canopy before painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
