The AMX is a light subsonic attack aircraft developed in cooperation between the Italian and the Brazilian aviation industries. The AMX-T version is a two-seat trainer form with the seats in tandem and a lengthened cockpit, which kept the combat capabilities of the single-seat version. For a modeler, the longer canopy means more frames to mask.
Masking templates cut to the shape of the glazed surfaces of the model in 1:72 scale. They follow the framing of the canopy, so there is no cutting of strips out of masking tape and no guessing at the width of the frames. The extent of the templates for the individual parts is specified by the instructions in the package. In 1:72 scale a frame is barely as wide as a hair, and a strip of tape cut by hand tends to come out a different thickness every time, which shows on a finished model.
Wash and dry the glazing; a template will not hold on a greasy surface. Lift the mask off with tweezers, lay it so that it lines up with the frame and press it down with a toothpick around its whole perimeter. It is stuck down before spraying, never onto a finished coat of varnish. Apply the paint in several light coats so that it does not seep under the edge, and take the templates off as soon as the paint has set. On a fully cured finish the edge is more easily torn away together with the paint.
For a builder who wants the frames of the cockpit equally wide and sharply bounded and does not want to spend a whole evening on it. With the two-seat version the saving of time shows even more than with the single-seater. A kit and paints are not included, unless stated otherwise.
