An anti-glare panel for the Fw 190 A in 1:72 from AML gives a model the characteristic feature of the night fighters of the Wilde Sau chapter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory from the Czech brand AML represents the anti-glare panel that was fitted to night fighter Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A machines. The set in 1:72 scale extends an existing model of the fighter with a characteristic feature of the night machines - the aircraft itself is not part of the package.
During night interceptions against the British bomber streams, made famous under the name Wilde Sau, the pilots of single-engined fighters flew above the burning cities and looked for the silhouettes of bombers against the glare of fires and searchlights. The BMW 801 radial engine, however, threw exhaust flames straight into the pilot's field of view, so the machines were given sheet-metal shields along the exhausts to screen the blinding flashes. An unassuming piece of metal on which a pilot's sight, and therefore his life, depended at night. On a model it is a small thing that immediately gives away a machine's night past.
The shields are small parts, so pick them up with tweezers and glue them with a minimum of adhesive. Night Focke-Wulfs flew in a variety of camouflage schemes - check the particular scheme against photographs, because with night machines every example was a one-off. Lightly worn edges on the shields and staining around the exhausts round out a used look.
