About product

An artillery self-propelled mount on the BT-7 chassis with the L-11 gun, 1:72 scale

The kit from the maker UM covers the artillery variant built on the chassis of the Soviet BT-7 fast tank and armed with the 76.2 mm L-11 gun. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The maker runs a whole range of machines derived from BT chassis, so the set can also be built as part of a themed collection.

The real subject

The BT-7 belonged to the Soviet BT series of fast tanks with wheels and tracks, that is machines capable of running once the tracks had been taken off as well. A long chassis with large road wheels and vertical suspension is characteristic of them. Precisely because the chassis was available and able to carry weight, a range of derived designs came about on its basis, among them vehicles carrying heavier artillery armament than a standard turret could take. The 76.2 mm L-11 gun was a Soviet tank gun of the late 1930s. The combination of the BT-7 chassis and this gun corresponds to few-off and trial machines, not to mass-produced hardware.

Building and painting tips

The BT chassis with its large wheels shows the most on the model, so assemble and clean it up first and check that the wheels stand in one plane. Leave the wheels and tracks separate, paint them apart and fit them only after the base coat on the hull. The barrel of the gun deserves especially careful cleaning up of the parting seam, because a lengthwise mark on a barrel shows even in a small scale. Apply a gloss coat before the decals and a flat one after them. Choose the weathering sparingly: a fine wash into the engraved lines and light dust on the running gear.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Soviet interwar and early war hardware in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers interested in less usual and derived designs
  • Builders putting together a collection of vehicles on BT series chassis
  • More experienced modelers used to the small parts of a small scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A Soviet 76.2 mm tank gun of the late 1930s. The pairing of the BT-7 chassis and the L-11 gun corresponds to few-off machines, not to series production.

It is not. It is an artillery variant with heavier armament built on the BT-7 chassis, not a standard tank.

The maker offers both variants with some of his sets; check the version of the tracks on the box.

The 1:72 scale means small running gear parts, so it is work for a more experienced modeler.
