About product

ATF Dingo 1 in 1:72 scale from Revell

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German light armored vehicle ATF Dingo in its first generation, in 1:72 scale. The smaller scale makes the model a quicker project that is easy both to build and to display, and at the same time it fits well into a collection of contemporary equipment. Revell is a German manufacturer and keeps this subject in its range as one of its home themes.

The real subject

The ATF Dingo belongs to the category commonly called a protected off-road vehicle with increased crew protection. The abbreviation in the name comes from the German designation for a vehicle with all-round protection. Its basis is the chassis of the Unimog cross-country truck, on which sits a separate armored cab with a floor shaped into a wedge; the shape of the floor directs the blast wave from a mine or a charge away from the crew to the side. The vehicle was created in the second half of the 1990s and entered service with the German army at the turn of the millennium. On the roof there is usually a weapon station that can be fitted with a machine gun or an automatic grenade launcher. The first generation was later complemented and replaced by the larger Dingo 2 variant.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the chassis and the axles before you set the armored cab on them. Clear-coat the clear windows only after masking and glue them with a cement meant for transparent parts so that they do not haze. In a small scale clean work on the parting lines and a thin coat of filler primer are the key. German vehicles are worn either in a single shade for deployment abroad or in three-color European camouflage; both can be managed with an airbrush at low pressure. Keep the weathering sparing, just dust on the wheels and the wheel arch.

Who the model is for

  • Anyone interested in contemporary German military vehicles
  • Modelers who build modern wheeled vehicles in 1:72 scale
  • Beginners and the moderately advanced who want a project that can be finished faster
  • Collectors putting a set of vehicles into a smaller display case

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. The British Daimler Dingo is a small reconnaissance armored car of the Second World War, while the ATF Dingo is a contemporary German vehicle on a Unimog chassis. Only the name is the same.

The shape of the floor directs the blast wave from a mine or a charge away from the crew to the side. It is a basic element of protection on vehicles of this type.

The Dingo 2 is a later and larger variant that complemented and replaced the first generation in service. This model matches the first generation.

Yes, it is among the more approachable projects. We only recommend careful cleaning up of the parts and a thin coat of primer so that the detail is not filled in at a small scale.
