About product

The interior of the B-17F Flying Fortress in 1:72 scale

A collection of photo-etched parts for the inside of a Boeing B-17F model from the Czech firm Eduard. It supplements the fittings of the crew spaces in the fuselage, where a kit in a small scale necessarily stops at simplified shapes.

The F version and its interior

The machines of the F series served at a time when daylight bombing raids over occupied Europe were still finding their form and crews often improvised their own defense against head-on attacks. The internal layout therefore differed from machine to machine, and photographs of a particular aircraft are more valuable for a faithful build than any general diagram.

Recommended sequence of work

  • Plan the build so that the interior is finished before the fuselage.
  • Glue the metal subassemblies together outside the model and insert them into the fuselage as a whole.
  • Apply the finish in thin coats; a heavy coat floods the fine relief.
  • Before closing the fuselage, try the fit without glue.

The set is intended for

Builders who want the Fortress faithful even where an ordinary glance does not reach, and for anyone building the model with parts of the fuselage left open. The same maker also offers separate sets for the front and the rear of the aircraft, so it is possible to choose only the section you want to concentrate on. The choice between the whole and a partial solution depends mainly on how open a model you are planning. On a closed machine the benefit is concentrated in the glazed places; on an open one it is worth going for the whole fuselage at once.

FAQ

This item is conceived as the interior in general, while the separate sets always aim at one section of the fuselage only. The extent therefore differs.

The benefit then falls, but the glazed nose and the cockpit reveal more than you would expect. It depends on how closely you look at the model.

A combination of a thin base, dark accentuation of the seams and fine highlighting of the edges helps. Let the coats dry through properly.

Usually the molded shapes that the metal part replaces have to be removed. The extent differs from kit to kit.
