About product

Reskit 1:72 Canberra, resin landing gear bays

A resin set of landing gear bays in 1:72 scale from the maker Reskit, intended for the English Electric Canberra jet bomber, later listed under the BAC name. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory that replaces the shallow, simplified bays from the plastic tool. The exact number of parts, the scope of the set and the way it is fitted are given on the packaging of the set.

The real subject

The Canberra was the first British jet bomber and first flew at the end of the 1940s. The combination of a large wing area and a pair of jet engines gave it an unusual ceiling, thanks to which it stayed in service for a long time not only as a bomber but above all as a reconnaissance and target aircraft. It served with the British and with a number of foreign air forces, and its career stretched over several decades. English Electric later became part of the British Aircraft Corporation, which is where the abbreviation BAC in the aircraft's designation comes from.

Fitting and painting tips

The bays are fitted from the inside, that is, before the fuselage or the wing halves are closed. Reckon with the possibility of having to thin the walls of the opening or to adjust the outline of the insert slightly, so dry-fit everything and take material off in small steps. Wash the castings free of mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand them wet with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the inside of the bay before you close it up: a light base shade, a wash into the detail and a light dry brush on the edges turn an otherwise empty cavity into the most interesting place on the underside of the model. Hydraulic lines can be suggested with fine wire.

Who the set is for

  • builders of the Canberra in 1:72 scale
  • modelers building the model with the landing gear down and the bays open
  • anyone wanting a marked improvement in the detail of the underside without touching the whole model
  • those with experience of resin and of small alterations to plastic

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Resin inserts for the landing gear bays. The exact number of parts and the scope of the set are given on the packaging.

Before the fuselage and the wing halves are closed. Once they are glued you can no longer get inside.

With resin inserts a small adjustment of the outline or thinning of the walls is to be expected. Dry-fit the parts and take material off in small steps.
