In the sixteenth century the core of the Muscovite army was cavalry made up of the service nobility. A rider obtained his equipment and his horse himself and held land for his service, so the appearance of the individual fighters differed from one man to the next. The fighting was done from horseback, with a great emphasis on the bow and the saber. The Siege of Pskov at the turn of the years 1581 and 1582 belongs to the close of the Livonian War; the town withstood the siege at that time, which made it one of the most frequently recalled moments of this conflict.
This is a set of figures in 1:72 scale intended to be built and painted rather than finished painted models. The designation of the second set in the name sets the product apart from the further sets of the same subject; how many figures and horses the package contains and in what poses they are is given in the enclosed manufacturer's instructions. The set suits a historical diorama and at this scale it can be combined with infantry and buildings of the same scale.
Before painting, wash the figures in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry out completely. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down carefully. Choose the glue according to the kind of plastic: a solvent cement for hard polystyrene, while on softer plastics cyanoacrylate holds more reliably. Paint the rider separately from the horse and join them only at the end, as a brush will otherwise not reach the saddle. Because each rider equipped himself, the set will bear a more varied range of shades than a set of uniformed infantry.
