A balalaika in 1:72 scale is a small scenic accessory for dioramas — a stand-alone prop, neither a kit nor a part for a model.

The triangular body of a balalaika is one of those props that give a scene a human dimension. The instrument propped against a wall, laid on a bench or held in the hands of a figure changes the whole reading of a scene: a technical display becomes a moment when something is happening. In 1:72 scale it is a very small stand-alone object of a scene, not a kit and not a part for another model.
It works best in off-duty and camp scenes, in interiors, on the bed of a cart, in the corner of a yard or by a fire. It suits anywhere you want to suggest a moment of calm between work — and because it is an instrument with a striking silhouette, it is recognizable even on a small area and from a distance.
Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry, then gently clean up the residue from production. Because of the small size, work with a brush with a good point and lay the paint down in several thin coats rather than one heavy one — with an instrument the main thing is to keep the edges sharp. The body looks good in a warm brown with a thin coat of gloss varnish that imitates varnished wood. Set the soundboard apart in a lighter shade and let a dark wash run to the fretboard. The strings are not modeled in this scale; it is enough to suggest them with a thin light line.
Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
