A resin set from the Czech manufacturer CMK that replaces the mainwheels of the plastic Bristol Beaufighter kit. The distinguishing detail is the combination of the late disk type with a smooth tire with no tread — CMK offers variants with a block tread and with a hexagonal tread in the same line, so this designation deserves attention when choosing. Cast wheels usually have a crisper rim outline and a cleaner transition between disk and casing than two-piece plastic parts, where the mold seam has to be sanded away. Anything in the package beyond what the name gives is not stated here.
The Bristol Beaufighter was a British twin-engine heavy fighter and strike aircraft of the Second World War, used as a night fighter and in the strike and torpedo roles. The Mk.VI and Mk.X versions were among the most widespread, while the Mk.21 designation was carried by machines built in Australia. Later production machines differed, among other things, in the design of the main landing gear wheels, which is exactly what this set addresses.
Wash the castings first in soapy water to remove any mold release residue. On wheels the casting block usually runs along the contact patch of the tire — cut it off with a saw and wet-sand the surface so that the wheel stands straight; protect your airways when sanding resin. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Spray a primer, paint the tire in a dark gray shade rather than pure black and the disk to suit the scheme of the aircraft. A dry brush and a fine pigment on the contact patch will give the wheel a worn look.
