About product

Bedford QL tanker 1:72, IBG Models

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Bedford QL truck in the tanker version in 1:72 scale from the Polish manufacturer IBG Models. It is a modern mold with a large number of parts; according to the manufacturer a small photo-etched fret is included as well. Despite the small scale this is a detailed kit, not a simple one.

The real subject

The Bedford QL was one of the most widespread British three-ton trucks of the Second World War. It was built in series between 1941 and 1945 in large numbers and used in many forms, to tow anti-aircraft guns, to carry infantry and as a tractor for semi-trailers. The tanker version served to carry and dispense fuel for equipment in the field. The all-wheel-drive vehicle was known for its reliability and good going across country and became one of the characteristic images of British wartime logistics.

Building and painting tips

At the small 1:72 scale, build in subassemblies: first the chassis and the cab, and the tank body separately. Bend the small parts and the photo-etched fret with tweezers and bond them with super glue; glue the plastic with thin cement for polystyrene. Spray a thin primer before painting; for British equipment khaki (the SCC shades) or desert sand suit, according to the theater. Build subtle weathering with a light wash into the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and pigments for dust and mud, always sparingly at a small scale. A tanker will take traces of fuel and grease around the pump.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of British transport and logistics vehicles of the Second World War
  • Fans of Bedford QL trucks and supply vehicles
  • Modelers who build at the small 1:72 scale
  • Builders of dioramas with refueling and resupply in the field

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is the British three-ton Bedford QL truck of the Second World War in the tanker version, which served to carry and dispense fuel for equipment in the field.

Despite the small scale it is a detailed model with a large number of parts and a photo-etched fret. A patient beginner will manage the basics, but overall it suits more advanced modelers.

Thin cement for plastic, super glue for the photo-etched fret, a primer and paints (an airbrush is best), and washes and pigments for weathering if you like. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
