About product

Wheels for the Bedford QL in 1:72 scale, pattern 1 (IBG models)

A set of 3D-printed wheels for models of the British Bedford QL truck in 1:72 scale. It is an accessory for a finished model, not a model of the vehicle. The printed pieces have a one-piece carcass with no trace of a parting line and a readable tread even over as small an area as a tire has in this scale.

Pattern 1, or pattern 2

Bedford QLs ran on tires from several makes, and the manufacturer has therefore prepared two variants. This one carries the Traction type tread from Goodyear, and the other variant tires from Avon. They differ in the pattern of the tread, so the choice depends mainly on which period photograph or which particular vehicle you want to capture. If the specific subject does not matter to you, either of them will serve.

The real subject

The Bedford QL was a British three-ton truck with drive to all four wheels, built from 1941. It came in a whole range of forms - as a flatbed, a tanker, a workshop, a radio vehicle or a tractor for Bofors anti-aircraft guns - and served wherever British and Allied forces reached. It is precisely the wide range of bodies that makes it a rewarding subject for collectors and for scenes.

How to fit the wheels

Separate the wheels from the print supports, clean up the mating surfaces with a sharp knife and seat them with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay down a thin primer before painting, darken the tires to a gray-black shade - pure black looks unnatural - and use the shade of the body on the hub. At the end add dust and mud with pigments, most of all around the tread.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building the Bedford QL in 1:72 scale
  • those interested in British military vehicles of the Second World War
  • those bothered by a parting line on injection-molded wheels
  • builders of small scenes where the wheels are close to the viewer's eye

FAQ

It is not. These are wheels, an accessory for a Bedford QL model in 1:72 scale. The model of the vehicle has to be obtained separately.

The pattern of the tread and the make of the tire. Pattern 1 matches the Traction tread from Goodyear, pattern 2 tires from Avon.

The exact number of pieces is stated on the packaging of the set. The set is meant for one Bedford QL model.

Use a thin primer, a gray-black shade on the tires instead of pure black and the shade of the body on the hubs. Add dust and mud with pigments at the end.
