1:72 Bell Airacobra Mk.I AH574 for Royal Navy tests is an accessory set tied to one particular machine that served the Royal Navy on trials. It brings parts for a part-built kit, not a finished aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory is aimed at a single machine with a remarkable fate. The Royal Air Force rejected the Airacobra, yet one of the aircraft delivered got a second chance in trials service with the Navy. The set is meant to be worked into a plastic kit and does not take its place.
The Bell Airacobra was an American fighter with the engine mounted behind the pilot, a drive shaft under the cockpit floor and nose landing gear, which was a rarity in fighter practice of the day. The British ordered the type but withdrew it from front-line service after the trials. The machine with the serial number AH574 came to the Royal Navy for trials, and in April 1945 Eric Brown landed it on the deck of the ship HMS Pretoria Castle. It was the first landing of an aircraft with nose landing gear on the deck of an aircraft carrier.
Trials machines tended to be painted conspicuously so that they were clearly visible from the deck, so it pays to spend time on a smooth base under the paint. Sand the transitions between the accessory parts and the plastic away to nothing and degrease the surface before painting. Prepare the cockpit before you close the fuselage up; afterward it is out of reach.
