The real subject

The Bell P-39 Airacobra was an American fighter with the unconventional arrangement of its engine amidships and a propeller shaft running under the pilot. Besides the US Army Air Forces it was used in large numbers by the Soviet Air Force, and also by the Royal Air Force, the Royal Australian Air Force, the French Air Force and the Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force. The collection therefore offers a varied mix of national markings and wartime schemes from different fronts.
