A set of metal accessories from the Polish manufacturer MASTER for models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in versions E3 to E9 and T in 1:72 scale. According to the name it holds MG 17 machine gun tips and MG FF cannon barrels. It is not an aircraft kit; the base model has to be obtained separately.
Gun muzzles are among the most closely watched places on a model, and a plastic part is always blind. Drilling one out by hand in 1:72 scale means hitting the axis of a cylindrical part a fraction of a millimeter across with a micro drill bit, without the bit wandering off or the part cracking. A turned metal muzzle has its bore already made, concentric and with the same wall thickness all around. With a set that covers several weapons at once, another advantage shows: the parts are identical to one another, so they keep the same length and spacing on the model.
Cut off the plastic sections and pre-drill the holes exactly to the diameter of the pins. Seat the metal parts with super glue applied with a pin; for larger barrels epoxy is better because of the time it gives for alignment. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting, otherwise the paint will peel at the first touch. Gun muzzles are often not painted at all, only polished and darkened with a bluing solution; the result is more faithful than dark gray paint. The set can be combined with photo-etched parts, where the same procedure with degreasing and a primer for metal applies.
