A kit in 1:72 scale devoted to the Bf 109E-1 version, that is, the early configuration of the so-called Emil series. The Experten 2 designation is the name of a particular boxing; in German the word Experte denoted an experienced fighter pilot, and AZ model issues editions devoted to their machines under that name. The manufacturer also issues an earlier Experten 1 boxing, so these are two separate boxings with different contents.
The Bf 109E-1 was the first production subversion of the E series, which brought the Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine with direct fuel injection into the design of the Bf 109. Compared with the older versions with the Jumo engine, the nose changed: the radiators moved under the wing and the nose was given its characteristically more angular shape. The armament of the E-1 version consisted of four 7.92 mm machine guns, two above the engine firing through the propeller arc and two in the wings. The later E-3 replaced the wing machine guns with 20 mm cannons, which is the main difference between the two subversions and the reason why it is necessary to keep to the particular version when building. The aircraft was an all-metal monoplane with retractable landing gear, a narrow wheel track and a cockpit with a framed canopy.
Kits in 1:72 scale from smaller European manufacturers tend to be more sensitive to accuracy of fit than mass-production kits, so join all the main parts dry first and mark the seams. Bond the fuselage and the wing with a thin cement for plastic, which wicks into the joint and leaves no excess. Deal with the cockpit before closing the fuselage up; on this type the canopy is markedly framed, so masking with tape or with ready-made masks pays off. Spray over a filler primer, which will reveal the sanded areas, and lay on a gloss varnish before the decals, as decals silver on a matte base. Finish with a matte varnish and restrained weathering: exhaust stains behind the engine, fine scuffing on the wing leading edge and where people stepped into the cockpit.
