An injection-molded plastic kit of the German fighter Messerschmitt Bf-109F-2 in 1:72 scale from Zvezda. It is a simplified snap-fit kit whose parts are adapted to join even without glue, so it suits a quick build and less experienced modelers; for a firm joint and a clean result, however, we recommend classic cement for plastic. The model has finely engraved panel detail and a clear canopy part. The package contains decals.
The F version, nicknamed the Friedrich, represented the aerodynamically cleanest development stage of the Bf-109 line. Compared with the older Emil it received rounded wing tips, a smoother engine cowling and a cleaner airframe shape. The F-2 subversion was powered by the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz 601 series engine and it carried lighter but concentrated armament - machine guns above the engine and an engine-mounted cannon firing through the propeller hub. It took part in the fighting from 1941, among other places on the Eastern Front and over North Africa.
Even with a snap-fit model it pays to take the parts off the sprues with a sharp knife and clean up the lugs. Paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage and apply a thin primer to the plastic, which will improve the adhesion of the paint. The combination of a light blue underside and a divided upper camouflage is typical of the Friedrich. Pick out the engraved detail with a dark wash, apply the decals onto gloss varnish and seal the model at the end with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
