A set of replacement barrels for models of the Messerschmitt Bf 109F fighter in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. The PRINT designation in the name refers to the line made by 3D printing, which allows thinner walls and finer shapes than injected plastic can manage. It is on the barrels that this shows most: the printed part has the right ratio of length to diameter and a clean outline at the muzzle. The package contains these parts only, no model.
Barrels are a classic weak point on a model in 1:72 scale. In a kit they tend to be molded in one piece with their surroundings, have walls that are too thick, and after being cut from the sprue a burr stays at the muzzle. A replacement part solves this problem at a stroke. On the Bf 109F series the armament was concentrated in the axis of the aircraft and in the front of the fuselage, so the barrels and their fairings are among the elements that are visually exposed on a model. Check the exact composition of the package against the packaging.
The printed parts are very fine, so work with them using tweezers over a mat with a raised edge. Cut off the supports with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and sand the area only lightly. Wash them in warm soapy water before painting so that they lose the residue from production and the paint holds. They are bonded with super glue, ideally a gel one. Cut off the original barrel on the model and level the opening, and only then fit the new one. Paint thinly: on a barrel in 1:72 scale the second heavier coat already floods it. A metallic look comes out well with a dark base, a fine metallic pigment on the edges and discreet dirtying at the muzzle.
This is not a kit. The package contains replacement parts only: the model, paints and glue are not part of it.
