A three-dimensionally printed Eduard engine in 1:72 scale for Bf 109G-2 and Bf 109G-4 models. A replacement for the simplified engine bay from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109G carried the DB 605, a liquid-cooled twelve-cylinder vee unit mounted inverted, with the cylinders pointing down. That is precisely why the machine has such a narrow nose and the characteristic bulges on its cowlings. The G-2 and G-4 versions differed from each other mainly in equipment, but the powerplant remained common to both, so the set covers them both.
The package carries an engine made by three-dimensional printing in 1:72 scale, as the name of the set states directly. At this scale printing can pull out hoses, linkages and ribbing more crisply than a mold allows, which is why it is used for engines today. The range of parts and the way they are seated in the fuselage are described in the manufacturer's instructions.
The printed parts are held during printing by supports, which are thin and brittle. Cut them off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remains carefully; a sanding sponge suits the small areas. The material is not polystyrene, so cyanoacrylate glue will make the joint. Wash and degrease the parts before painting to get rid of print resin residue, and let them dry thoroughly. If you want to leave the engine exposed, expect to have to modify the nose cowlings according to the instructions.
The set belongs to a modeler who wants to show more on the model than a closed nose. Experience with tiny parts pays off, as do fine-tipped tweezers and good light; the individual engine elements are barely visible at this scale. The contents of the delivery follow the manufacturer's data; the kit, paints and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
