About product

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 109G was the most numerously built version of the German single-engine fighter of the Second World War. Against the earlier versions it received the more powerful inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 605 and with it a number of changes to the cowling, on account of which modeling practice distinguishes several forms of the same machine. The canopy glazing in this version has a great many frames, so masking it is among the most tedious jobs in the build.

What the set offers

The set contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:72 scale. You simply lift the individual shapes out of the sheet and apply them, so there is no cutting of strips of tape by eye. The edges of the masks are cut to the shape of the glazing frames, thanks to which the paint on the model keeps a straight line and the frame looks the same width along its whole length. Which areas the set covers is given in the instructions with the set.

Usage tips

The masks are applied before spraying. Wash the glazing beforehand and let it dry thoroughly; a mask will not hold on a greasy surface. Once applied, press the edges down with a toothpick or a blunt stick so that paint does not creep under the edge. Apply the paint in several thin coats; a thick coat leaves a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays visible after removal. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, not once the model is finished, and rather slowly and at an angle than with a perpendicular pull.

  • pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:72 scale
  • the subject is the Messerschmitt Bf 109G fighter
  • the shapes are lifted out of the sheet and applied, with nothing to cut
  • applied before spraying, removed shortly after the paint has dried
  • it saves time when masking the intricate canopy glazing

Who it is for

For modelers who want the glazing frames sharp and straight without lengthy cutting of tape. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A sheet of pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:72 scale for the Bf 109G. The list of areas is given in the instructions with the set.

Masks are cut for a particular kit, because the shape of the glazing differs from model to model. The specific application is given in the instructions with the set.

Apply them to clean, dry glazing before spraying. Remove them shortly after the paint has dried, slowly and at an angle, not with a perpendicular pull.

Press the edges down with a toothpick after applying them and lay the paint on in several thin coats instead of one thick one.
