A set of pre-cut masking templates of kabuki paper for building a model of the Blackburn Buccaneer in the S.2C version, 1:72 scale. The Advanced grade lies between the basic set and the most extensive Expert grade. It is an accessory to a kit, and neither the model nor paints are part of the package.
The Blackburn Buccaneer is a twin-engine two-seat carrier attack aircraft of British design, laid out for flight at low altitude and high speed. A rugged airframe, folding forward and rear parts of the fuselage for stowage on deck and a rotating bomb bay door are characteristic. The S.2C designation is carried by the version operated by the Fleet Air Arm after the upgrade of the S.2 series machines. A cockpit for two crew members one behind the other means a longer glazed section, that is more frames to mask than on a single-seat machine.
In 1:72 scale the individual templates are very small and are easily lost. Work over a tray with a high rim and use tweezers with fine, ideally rounded tips so that they do not pierce the paper. Lift the masks out by raising a corner with the tip of a scalpel and taking up the rest with tweezers. When laying them down, do not touch the adhesive side with your fingers, as grease from the skin weakens the adhesive. Once laid on, finish the edge with a toothpick all the way round, because on small parts a bad edge shows disproportionately more than on a large model. Spray the paint in truly thin coats; in a small scale even two thick coats will blind the engraved lines. Take the masks off shortly after drying, as small paper comes away in pieces after a longer time.
