The Phantom was for a long time the main combat aircraft of both the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm, and on the ground it appeared with its covers fitted. On the real machine these go over the intakes, the sensors and other openings so that dirt does not get into them, and they carry the conspicuous Remove Before Flight tags that the crew takes off before takeoff.
Replacement covers and plugs for a Phantom model in 1:72 scale. The extent of the set and which openings the individual parts belong to are given by the manufacturer in the instructions; the parts are shaped as a single piece, so there is no assembling them from several bits and gluing tiny tabs that are hard to hold in tweezers at this scale.
The parts are not polystyrene and ordinary plastic cement will not join them; use cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder back with fine paper. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, then apply the base color. On real machines the covers are kept in conspicuous colors so that they are visible from a distance, so on a model they can take a saturated shade and clearly legible lettering on the tag. Fit them only onto a finished and varnished model, so that they do not stick into paint that is still soft.
For builders who set their model up as a scene on the ground, with the aircraft in ground preparation, and want to set it apart from a machine in flight. The package holds this set only; the aircraft model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
