The 1:72 Buccaneer S.2B/D canopy mask from Dead Design is a pre-cut self-adhesive set for the canopy framing, cut for the older 1989 release of the Airfix kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pre-cut self-adhesive masking set for the canopy framing. The individual segments are applied straight onto the clear molding and cover the areas that are to stay transparent. The outline of the frame stays exposed, so it can be sprayed with an airbrush and the paint does not run over onto the glass. The set is cut for the older 1989 release of the Airfix kit; the year refers to the kit release, not to the real aircraft.
The Buccaneer was a British two-seat strike aircraft designed to penetrate to its target at low altitude and high speed. The S.2 version received Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines; the S.2B designation goes with Royal Air Force aircraft, the S.2C and S.2D with the Royal Navy. The canopy glazing is divided into panes, and the framing is one of the first places on a model where it shows whether the painting was done carefully.
In 1:72 scale the segments of the mask are genuinely tiny, often only a few millimeters long. Tweezers with fine, precisely closing tips pay off; the part is lifted off the sheet with the point of a scalpel and carried over with tweezers so that the adhesive side never touches your fingers. Grease from the skin makes the mask hold worse and the paint then creeps under it. Because this is an older mold, check the clear part against the light: a small flash or a leftover of the parting line at the edge of the glazing will not be covered by the mask, and it is better to pare it off carefully and polish it before applying. Press the applied mask down all around the edge with a wooden toothpick, most of all in the corners.
