The C-118 Liftmaster is the military variant of the four-engine Douglas DC-6 airliner. Power came from air-cooled Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines, that is, the same family of engines that proved itself on a number of other machines of its day. The aircraft was used to carry people as well as cargo over long distances, it served with the US Air Force as well as the Navy, and in its civil form it was among the last large piston-engine airliners before the arrival of the jet era.
With large airliner models with nosewheel landing gear there is a risk that the model will sit down on its tail once finished. Add weight to the nose before closing the fuselage, therefore, and try the balance dry. Glue the fuselage halves gradually and clamp them with rubber bands or clips, so that the seam comes out as thin as possible. The long areas of the fuselage and wings call for patient sanding through several grits and for a filler primer. If you go for an aluminum finish, reckon on polished metallic paints revealing every irregularity, and test the surface on an offcut first.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
