1:72 C-54

Eduard C-54 Skymaster 1:72, a set of painting masks

This is a set of self-adhesive painting masks cut from Japanese kabuki masking tape by the Czech maker Eduard in 1:72 scale. The masks serve for accurate, clean spraying of the frames of the cockpit glazing and normally of the wheel discs as well on a plastic model of the C-54 Skymaster aircraft. It is neither a kit nor decals, but an aftermarket accessory for painting which is used while building the matching model. The model itself is obtained separately.

The real subject

The Douglas C-54 Skymaster was an American four-engined military transport aircraft, the military version of the DC-4 airliner. During the Second World War it served for the long-range carriage of troops and cargo, and it made its name above all during the Berlin Airlift, when it supplied the encircled city.

Use

• The masks are transferred from the backing sheet and stuck onto the clear cockpit glazing to follow the shape of the frames.
• The edges are pressed down so that paint does not run under the mask, and the area is oversprayed with an airbrush.
• Once dry the masks are lifted off; kabuki tape holds its shape and leaves no adhesive.
• Masks for the wheel discs are usually included too, for easy separation of the tire from the rim.

Who the set is for

• Modelers building a C-54 Skymaster model in 1:72 scale who want clean cockpit frames
• Builders who do not fancy laboriously cutting the frames out and painting them with a brush
• Anyone interested in making the painting of glazing faster and more accurate

This is a set of painting masks, not an airplane model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
