Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs to the historical figure line of the manufacturer Strelets-R and contains riders with horses in 1:72 scale. The figures are supplied unpainted, in a single shade of soft plastic, and are intended for painting and for setting into a diorama or a display case. This is not a kit of hardware, but an addition to a scene, which gives it scale and a sense of events.
Carolingian cavalry is the designation for the riders of the Frankish empire from the time of the reign of Charlemagne and his successors, that is, roughly from the eighth and ninth centuries. Typical equipment was chain mail or scale armor of a shorter cut, a conical helmet, a lance and a one-handed sword, supplemented by a round or almond-shaped shield. A rider of that time fought mainly with lance and sword from the saddle and was tied to the breeding and upkeep of horses, which made the cavalry a relatively narrow component of an army.
The soft plastic of Strelets calls for a different preparation from hard polystyrene. First cut the flash off and run a scalpel or an abrasive file gently over the parting seams, then wash the figures in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry out properly. Without primer acrylic cracks and flakes off this plastic, so apply a thin layer of a base suitable for soft plastics. Paint the riders and the horses separately, while the surfaces of the saddle and the harness are accessible, and only then join them. Chain mail is enlivened by a dark base with a fine dry brush of silver gray, and on horses the layering of shades of brown and a final toning into the recesses work well.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
