The real subject

The CASA C-212 is a Spanish light transport aircraft with a high wing and a boxy fuselage, thanks to which it suits short and unpaved strips. The landing flaps on the trailing edge of the wing change its behavior on takeoff and landing, and on a parked machine they are often in a position other than fully retracted. That is exactly the detail a kit usually solves with a single fixed shape.

What the set contains

Replacement wing landing flaps for a model of the CASA C-212 in 1:72 scale. They replace the part from the kit and have a thinner trailing edge as well as a rendered surface that is visible from the side and from below once fitted. According to its name the set is cut for the Special Hobby kit, so on a model of different origin you have to count on adjusting the shape of the cut-out.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the original flap out of the kit along the engraved line with a sharp blade and level the cut with a file, and only then dry fit.
• The position of the flaps has to be the same on both wings, otherwise the model looks twisted when seen from behind.
• The parts are not polystyrene; cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy will join them, ordinary modeling cement will not.
• Cut the excess material off a little away from the part and sand the rest down, so as not to damage the thin edge.
• Wash and degrease before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
• Paint the exposed surfaces inside the cut-out before you seat the flap in place.

For the builder who wants the model in a position matching a machine on the ground and is not satisfied with a wing molded in one piece. It pays off above all on a model in a diorama, where the machine is caught during loading or shortly after landing.
