Caudron C.460 1:72 - a resin kit from SBS Model

A complete resin kit of the most famous of the racing Caudrons - the C.460 type with retractable landing gear. The Hungarian maker SBS Model captures the refined shapes of the real machine in fine resin castings; the kit is intended for experienced modelers.

The real subject

The Caudron C.460 from the design office of Marcel Riffard was the peak of the series of miniature racing low-wing monoplanes built for the Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe. It differed from its sister the C.450 above all in its retractable landing gear, which further reduced the drag of the airframe. Wooden construction, a perfectly faired inverted inline Renault engine and a minimal fuselage cross-section made the C.460 one of the aerodynamically cleanest machines of its time: in 1934 the world landplane speed record was broken on it at a figure of over 500 km/h, and the type also had success in races overseas in the United States.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts to remove the mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand with respiratory protection; glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate). With a racing special a perfectly smooth surface is the key - fill the joints, sand them down with fine abrasive sponges and finish the blue paintwork with a gloss coat. The retractable landing gear allows the model to be presented effectively in flight on a stand.
