An accessory set in 1:72 scale capturing the engine of the CH-47 Chinook helicopter. It comes into its own above all on a model with the panels open.

An accessory in 1:72 scale capturing the engine of the CH-47 Chinook helicopter. Kits tend to leave the space under the panels empty or merely hinted at, so a thoroughly worked-out engine is the only way to build the model with the powerplant exposed. A maintenance scene, with the machine part-built and personnel moving around it, is a rewarding subject.
The CH-47 Chinook is an American heavy transport helicopter with a pair of main rotors arranged in tandem. That is exactly why it needs no anti-torque rotor on the tail: the two counter-rotating rotor heads cancel each other's torque. The powerplants are turboshafts and sit on the sides of the rear pylon, that is high above the fuselage, where they are clearly visible when the panels are open. The Chinook has been in service since the 1960s and is among the longest-used helicopters of all.
Expect to have to open the panel on the kit, that is cut it out and thin the edges, so that it does not look like coarse sheet metal once the engine is set in. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and carefully sand off the rest. Use super glue for the joints; ordinary cement for polystyrene may not hold reliably. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Metallic shades suit the engine, with a dark glaze in the recesses and a light dusting along the edges.
For modelers who build the Chinook in 1:72 scale and want to show what is usually hidden under the panels. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
