A detail set in cast resin in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Eduard. The subject is a laser-guided bomb of the Paveway II family, that is a conventional aerial bomb fitted with a guidance head with a laser seeker at the front and stabilizing surfaces at the rear. In a small scale a resin casting shows above all on thin flat surfaces and on the ring section of the guidance head, which are difficult to do in injection-molded plastic. The package is an accessory for a plastic kit and does not contain the aircraft. The number of pieces is stated on the box.
Paveway II is the designation of a family of laser guidance kits that turn an ordinary unguided aerial bomb into precision-guided munition. The guidance head at the nose follows the reflected laser beam with which the target is marked, either from a designating aircraft or from the ground, and the control surfaces bring the bomb to that point. It spread from the 1970s and became one of the most widely used kits of its kind. Its external mark is a slender head with the seeker window and folding rear surfaces.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent because of mold release agent residue. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw at a place that will not be seen once it is hung. Protect your airways while sanding; it is glued with cyanoacrylate. Painting: a primer and then a shade matching training or live munition of the period — training rounds usually carry prominent color markings, live ones do not. Bring out the seeker window with a drop of gloss varnish. Mask the color bands with masking tape; on small parts that comes out cleaner than painting by hand.
