Injection-molded plastic model of the American shipborne reconnaissance floatplane Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand Smer. The kit uses an older, simply arranged mold with a manageable parts count, clear cockpit parts and a single central float; the box contains decals for US Navy aircraft. It is an undemanding and straightforward model.
The SC-1 Seahawk was a single-seat shipborne reconnaissance and observation aircraft of the US Navy from the end of the Second World War. It took off from the water on one large float and was launched from warships — cruisers and battleships — by catapult; after alighting on the water it was lifted back aboard by crane. It was powered by a Wright Cyclone radial engine and was among the last floatplanes of its kind before helicopters took over the role.
Glue the parts with modeling cement for plastic; with an older mold, expect to clean up the mold seams and adjust the fit more carefully. Fill and sand the fuselage and float joints. Apply a primer and spray with an airbrush; the typical blue-gray US Navy scheme benefits from light shading and picked-out detail. Seat the float struts precisely so that the model stands straight.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
