This set belongs to the color photo-etched line of Eduard for 1:72 scale. The difference from bare brass sets is fundamental: the key interior parts are pre-printed in color including the instrument dials and the belts, so the most delicate painting of tiny details is unnecessary. Compared with the Brassin resin line, an etch offers a realistic sheet thickness and a flat profile that can be glued even into an already finished cockpit. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a plastic kit.
The Dewoitine D.520 was a French single-seat fighter with a liquid-cooled Hispano-Suiza V12 engine, which reached combat in 1940. Its armament consisted of a 20 mm cannon firing through the propeller hub and machine guns in the wing. Compared with its contemporary opponents it was agile and easy to handle, and its main weakness was the lower output of the powerplant. The cockpit had a typically French instrument layout, which in a small scale can hardly be reproduced believably without color printing.
In 1:72 scale the parts are truly tiny, so work on a light surface and with good tweezers. Cut them out with a scalpel close to the tab and sand the surplus down with a file so that no burr is left. Do not spray the pre-printed areas with a covering color; you would lose the whole point of the set. If you need to even out the sheen, use only a thin coat of matte clear. A drop of gloss clear or of clear resin suits the instrument dials and looks like glass once it has cured. Before gluing, check how much plastic has to be removed from the original part so that the cockpit can be closed after installation. It is bonded with super glue in very small doses.
