The Diamond DA-42 MPP in 1:72 scale from Amodel - an injection-molded kit of the twin-engined aircraft in the special version for aerial surveillance and mapping.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the twin-engined Diamond DA-42 aircraft in the MPP version, that is, a multipurpose platform for special tasks. The 1:72 scale matches the usual aviation standard, so the model fits in among the other aircraft in a collection without trouble. Amodel is among the short-run manufacturers - reckon on the parts needing more preparatory work than with the big volume brands.
The DA-42 Twin Star is an all-composite twin-engined aircraft with a slender wing, retractable landing gear and a T-tail. What is unusual about it is its piston engines working on the diesel cycle, which burn aviation kerosene instead of automotive gasoline; operation is thereby substantially more economical than with comparable gasoline twins. The MPP version is adapted for aerial photography, mapping, surveillance of distribution networks and patrol flights - it therefore carries the installation for sensor equipment and an operator's station in the cabin.
With short-run tooling it pays to try every part dry first, remove the flash and sand the mating surfaces back - and only then glue. On the DA-42 the cabin is extensively glazed, so it is worth giving time to the interior and masking the clear parts beforehand. The white finish of a civilian aircraft is demanding: spray it in several thin layers over a light gray base, otherwise the edges and seams show through. Apply the registration markings and lines onto a glossy surface and, once dry, fix them with semi-matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
