Dassault Falcon 100 1:72: an Amodel plastic kit

This unassembled and unpainted plastic kit in 1:72 scale captures the small French Dassault Falcon 100 business jet. The box holds 65 plastic parts, one sprue of clear plastic for the cabin glazing, a decal sheet and detailed assembly instructions. The finished model is approximately 192 mm long with a span of approximately 181 mm.

The real subject

The Falcon 100 is a development of the Falcon 10, the smallest member of the family of business aircraft from the French firm Dassault. It is a twin-engine low-wing aircraft with the engines mounted on the sides of the rear fuselage and a conventional tail. The revised Falcon 100 was certified in December 1986 and offers a cruising speed of around 912 km/h and a maximum range of approximately 3560 km. The aircraft found its place in corporate transport, and some of the machines also served in government and military liaison roles.

Building and painting tips

The lower parts count simplifies the build, but Amodel's short-run production will call for cleaning up the parting lines and dry-fitting, above all where the wing and the engine nacelles join. Fill and sand the fuselage, because a glossy corporate scheme will emphasize every irregularity. Lay down a primer and spray the base color in thin coats. Bond the cabin glazing with an adhesive for canopies and mask it carefully before spraying. The color lines on the fuselage are easier to do by masking than with decals. Apply the decals over a gloss clear coat, overcoat at the end to the sheen you want, and add the small items such as antennas and lights.
