DB-7 Havoc Mk.I 1:72 from Special Hobby: a plastic kit of the night intruder aircraft with four color schemes.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the twin-engine Douglas DB-7 in British service, where it carried the name Havoc. The release is aimed at the machines used for night intruder sorties over enemy territory: according to the manufacturer it offers three all-black machines with night exhausts and one bomber machine in a special experimental finish. The package holds two pairs of night exhausts and two pairs of ordinary ones, and the manufacturer has also added corrected parts for the flaps on the engine cowlings.
The Douglas DB-7 was an American twin-engine attack aircraft with a nosewheel undercarriage, used in the Royal Air Force among other things for night intruder sorties. Their purpose was to catch enemy aircraft at the moment when they were landing or taking off, that is when they were most vulnerable. The machines therefore received an all-black finish and shrouded exhausts, which were to stop the flames from the engines giving the aircraft away. Some British fighter aces scored their first victories on these machines, and Polish crews flew them too.
An all-black finish is one of the hardest tasks in modeling, because shapes and details disappear under it. It works well not to mix pure black but a very dark gray, and to shade the individual panels slightly so that the surface is not flat. Bring the engraved lines out with a wash a little lighter than the base color, that is the other way round than on light-colored machines. Go over the surface with a gloss coat before the decals and unify the whole with a matte coat at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
