An injection-molded plastic kit of the American heavy recovery truck Diamond T 969 Wrecker in the Softcab form, that is, with an open cab with a canvas roof. The model in 1:72 scale comes from the Polish brand IBG models, who have long specialized in military vehicles in exactly this scale. Besides the plastic parts, the package also contains photo-etched parts, clear parts and decals. Go by the contents of your particular package for the number of parts and the individual finishes.
The Diamond T 969 was a recovery truck built on the chassis of the Diamond T 968 off-road truck with all-wheel drive (6x6). Its main weapon was not a gun but the heavy crane superstructure with a pair of booms and winches, with which the crew lifted wrecked vehicles, recovered bogged-down equipment and towed damaged machines off the battlefield to the workshops. Trucks of this type served with American units and with the Allies and became a common part of the rear areas as well as of frontline columns. The version with the soft cab represents the earlier, more open form of the truck; later a closed all-metal cab was adopted.
Start the build with the chassis, the axles and the frame: in this scale they are the backbone of the whole model, and a twisted frame is very hard to put right later. Use liquid cement for plastic, and glue the small photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue instead. Assemble the crane superstructure and the booms dry and check the symmetry before anything sets; the winch cables can be replaced with thin thread or wire. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush in the shade of olive green (Olive Drab); then bring the model to life with a dark wash in the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and scuffed areas on the fenders. Recovery trucks were working machines, so do not be sparing with dust and mud pigments on the chassis and the wheels, and add traces of oil around the winches.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
