The Dornier Do X 1:72 is a sizeable injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary giant flying boat from Amodel.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of the flying boat in 1:72 scale in injection-molded plastic. Given the dimensions of the real subject it is an exceptionally large model even in this scale, and the demands on space in a display case match that. Count on this being an extensive project, not a weekend build.
The Dornier Do X was a German flying boat of the end of the 1920s, at the time it was built the largest and heaviest aircraft in the world. It was powered by a twelve-engine arrangement placed in tandem nacelles above the wing, its hull offered space comparable to a ship rather than an aircraft, and the machine made its name with a long-distance tour across the Atlantic. Despite its technical impressiveness only a very few examples were built, because both the operating economics and the performance fell short of expectations. To this day it is one of the most striking icons of interwar aviation.
With large short-run kits it pays to work section by section: first finish and glue the hull, then the wing and only at the end the assembly of the engine nacelles. Dry-fit the mating surfaces and sand them if need be. The large smooth surfaces of the hull will reveal every unevenness, so do not skimp on the filler primer and intermediate sanding. Because of the weight and the dimensions, think the mounting on a base or in a display case and any strengthening of the joints out in advance. Paint and finish the engine nacelles separately while they are still easy to reach.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
